Subtle Things You Do That Ruin Your Digestive Health

All diseases begin in the gut. This quote which was attributed to the Ancient Greek physician Hippocrates thousand years ago is relevant to today's health issues. 

Our digestive tract does more than breaking down our food. It greatly influences our immune system and plays a crucial role in our overall health. To perform these activities, our gut needs a good amount of beneficial bacteria. These good bacteria help our digestive system digest food, absorb nutrients, and prevent many diseases. While these naturally occur in our body, there are certain foods and activities that cause our good bacteria to deplete. These include: 

  • Use of antibiotics (If possible, find natural alternatives or limit the use of antibiotics)
  • Use of antibacterial soap
  • Excessive usage of cleaning chemicals and harsh sanitary products
  • Consumption of processed and refined foods
  • Consumption of sugars
  • Consumption of starchy foods 
  • Lack of sleep
  • Over fatigue
  • Too much stress
