Learn More About Probiotics

Posted by Ruby Tequin on

Our digestive system goes far beyond breaking down our food. Many studies show that a well-balanced gastrointestinal (GI) tract affects not only our digestive system but also our overall health. When our digestive system is healthy, many good things happen: healthy gut, faster nutrient absorption, and less bad bacteria.

Good bacteria are naturally present in our intestinal tract. They aid in the digestion process and ward off disease-causing bacteria. However, these beneficial bacteria decrease in number usually because of unhealthy food choices, too little exercise, and stress. Thankfully, we can always "take in" good bacteria by consuming products that are rich in probiotics--a live bacteria that aid in digestion and nutrient absorption. Today, there are a lot of products that contain probiotics. These include:

  • Yogurt (Bear in mind that not all yogurts are not manufactured to supply probiotics.)
  • Powder
  • Capsules
  • Beverage

Some of the good bacteria present in these products include:

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus
  • Enterococcus faecium
  • Bifidobacterium lactis
  • Lactobacillus casei
  • Bifidobacterium breve
