Importance of Sodium

Posted by Ruby Tequin on

Sodium is present in most foods and is added in various food products. One of its benefits to the body is its role in enzyme operations and muscle contraction. It comes in more than 80 different forms such as sodium chloride, monosodium glutamate (MSG), sodium nitrite, and sodium saccharin.

Most of the body’s sodium is found in fluids around the cells. It balances the fluids and prevents the cells from absorbing and excreting too much water. When the blood goes low on sodium (or less than 140 mEq/L), an individual can experience neurological symptoms due to the swelling of cells.

Knowing how much sodium your pets are allowed to take every day is the key to maintaining a healthy amount of sodium concentration in their system. Be mindful of the food you feed them and give supplements containing the current recommended sodium intake.

Bentonite clay is rich in sodium, calcium, magnesium, and other trace minerals that, when ingested, can act as a supplement that replaces the missing nutrients needed by the body. Also, it is also known as an effective detoxification tool that remove toxins from the body.
