How to Increase Calcium Intake

Most Americans lack calcium because their daily food consumption does not meet the current recommendations for calcium intake. Therefore, they suffer symptoms they are not aware are brought by a nutritional disorder.

Dairy might be a surefire way to boost calcium but too much of it could interrupt nutrient absorption in the gut. Instead, you may try foods high in calcium such as salmon and sardines canned with bones, kale.

Calcium supplements are also a good source of calcium but don’t overdo it. Aim for 1000 to 1,200 mg of calcium from food and calcium supplements combined.

As we get older, our body’s ability to absorb calcium changes. This is why it’s important to keep our bones strong and healthy while we’re still young. Eat a balanced diet with foods that are rich in calcium and take calcium supplements.
