Causes of hyponatremia

Sodium regulates the level of fluids around the cells. So when the body goes low in sodium, it could alter various operations leading to fluid buildup, neurological illnesses (due to the swelling of brain cells), and high blood pressure.

Symptoms of sodium deficiency can be life-threatening and challenging to manage. Some of the common causes of hyponatremia include the following:

  • Underactive thyroid
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Nephrotic syndrome
  • Addison’s disease
  • Kidney failure
  • Liver failure
  • GI fluid loss
  • Pancreatitis
  • Diuretic administration

Anything that is lacking and in excess is harmful. Knowing how much sodium your pets are allowed to take every day is the key to maintaining a healthy amount of sodium concentration in their system. Be mindful of the food you feed them and give supplements containing the current recommended sodium intake.

Bentonite clay is rich in sodium, calcium, magnesium, and other trace minerals that, when ingested, can act as a supplement that replaces the missing nutrients needed by the body. Also, it is also known as an effective detoxification tool that remove toxins from the body.
