Anemic Cat Recovery Tips

Posted by Ruby Tequin on

When your cat has been diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia, they may need several days or weeks to fully recover. Some symptoms of anemia are mild and can be easily managed. However, when left unnoticed, these can escalate to serious health complications that can affect the lifespan of a feline.

While your cat is undergoing treatments, you can help them recover fast by doing the following:

  • Boost Iron
    • Cats with anemia need iron for faster recovery. Create a special diet plan with home cooked foods that are rich in iron and vitamin B.
  • Get Rid of Parasites
    • Iron deficiency anemia is caused by excessive blood loss brought by parasites that feed on blood such as ticks and fleas. Removing heavy infestations normalize the loss of blood in your cat.
  • Check Gums
    • Monitor your cat’s condition by checking on their gums once in a while. Healthy cats have bubble gum pink gums.
  • Supplements
    • Give your beloved pet natural supplements that are rich in iron such as bentonite clay. Bentonite clay is enriched with trace minerals such as potassium, iron, and magnesium. By mixing a tablespoon of bentonite clay with water, you create an instant drink that will make up for the nutrients they need.

Note that these tips are meant to be used to help your pet recover faster and not be as a substitute for treatment of cat anemia.
