What is pH?

Proper pH balance in the body  is an often overlooked, yet vitally important factor of human health.  pH is a rating system that measures  potential for Hydrogen; pH indicates the acidity (below 7) or alkalinity (above 7) of a liquid. The number 7 indicates a neutral pH.  Fluids comprise 60% of the human body and not only FILL our cells, but bathe them as well. Many suggest that the body functions optimally when its fluids have a neutral pH, or a value of 7.

Excess Acidity in the Body

More often than not, bodily fluids become acidic. A modern, stressful lifestyle and poor diet subject our body to more acidic compounds than it can process and remove. Artificial sweeteners, processed foods, food dyes, phosphorous and even caffeine are among the guilty culprits. In addition, there are myriad toxins in household cleaners, furniture, clothing, bedding and even beauty and bath products such as shampoo and toothpaste! The result is that acidic byproducts in the form of toxins and free radicals are stored in and among our cells, creating acidosis. Even worse, acidic waste buildup is cumulative over the course of our lives.

Many believe that acidosis is the underlying factor in all disease.  This is because a vast number of diseases known to man are contracted and thrive in an acidic environment.  As we get older, we suffer increasingly severe symptoms of this buildup in the form of weight gain, inflammation, mental fatigue, disease, and a compromised immune system.

Balance pH with Calcium Bentonite Clay

The human body typically works to maintain the correct pH balance, despite our efforts to sabotage it! With proper diet and regular ingestion of pure calcium bentonite clay, you can help your body to keep a neutral pH. This is because Earth’s Natural calcium bentonite clay has a highly alkaline pH of 9.7. It neutralizes and ushers acidic waste out of the body. Along with a diet rich in organic fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds and legumes, drinking clay is one of the easiest, most effective ways to repair damage created by over-acidity.

Additional Ways to Balance pH

Drinking a small amount of liquid clay daily is one way to help alkalize the human body. Listed below  are more suggestions on how to boost your body’s alkalinity. Before you begin, it’s important to know your current pH measurement. Check your local health food store  or online for pH testing strips.

You Are What You Eat

As Hippocrates said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” The foods you eat have a substantial impact on your body’s acid-alkaline balance. Some foods create more acidic byproduct than others. Coffee, high fructose corn syrup, red meat, dairy foods and alcohol are acid-forming. Most vegetables and fruits are highly alkaline, especially when eaten in their fresh, raw state. And of course, organic produce means no pesticides were used in the growing process. Conventionally grown foods are less nutritious as organic foods due to mineral depletion of soils over time.

Drink More Water

The body can be aided in removing toxins by drinking an adequate amount of water each day. Unfortunately, our public drinking supply is processed with harmful chemicals and stripped of its beneficial minerals. Try drinking at least 64 ounces of purified water each day. If that is not possible, consider adding fresh lime or lemon juice to your filtered water. Although citrus fruits are typically viewed as acidic, they actually have a highly alkalizing effect on the body.

Clay Baths

Clay baths can have a similar effect of pulling toxins out through the pores of the skin, the body’s largest excretory organ.  Clay baths are even safe for children, though the amount of clay added to the bath is smaller. Read more about children and clay baths here. Some people combine clay baths with drinking clay as part of a cleansing ritual. Care should be taken not to overdo it and ALWAYS listen to your body!
